Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake a moist chocolate cake or use a pre-made one. Allow it to cool completely.
- In a chilled mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. Whip on medium speed until soft peaks form.
- Wash and pit 1 cup of fresh cherries, then slice in half. If using canned cherries, drain well. Optionally soak in 1-2 tablespoons of Kirsch for 10-15 minutes.
- Layer in a trifle dish: start with chocolate cake cubes, then layer whipped cream, followed by cherries, continuing until all ingredients are used.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- When ready to serve, garnish with chocolate shavings and whole cherries. Serve chilled.
