Ingredients
  

For the Baklava
  • 1 package Phyllo Dough Thaw overnight for best texture.
  • 1.25 cups Butter, melted Lightly cover each sheet.
  • 8 ounces Walnuts, finely chopped Can substitute with pecans.
  • 8 ounces Pistachios, shelled and finely chopped Omit for single-nut baklava.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Essential spice for the filling.
For the Syrup
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Honey can be used as an alternative.
  • 0.75 cups Water No substitutions needed.
  • 0.5 cups Honey For true Greek flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice Fresh juice preferred.
  • 2 inches Fresh Orange Peel Can substitute with lemon peel.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Thaw the phyllo dough overnight in the refrigerator, keeping it tightly wrapped.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and orange peel. Bring to a boil, stir until sugar dissolves, then simmer for 4 minutes.
  3. Pulse walnuts and pistachios with cinnamon in a food processor until coarsely ground.
  4. Preheat oven to 325°F. Brush baking dish with melted butter. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Sprinkle nuts and repeat, finishing with 6-10 sheets.
  5. Cut the assembled baklava into diamond-shaped pieces before baking.
  6. Bake for 75 minutes until golden brown. Drizzle cool syrup over hot baklava immediately.
  7. Let cool for 4-6 hours before serving.
